Abstract. To organise fodder production in the Republic of Bashkortostan, it is necessary to develop technologies based on scientific achievements and best practices. New technologies for the production and use of animal feed must be compatible with the production process and the needs of the livestock industry, as well as help to reduce operating costs and product costs. The research aimed to increase the efficiency of fodder and grain forage crops production using the methodology of a comprehensive comparative economic assessment of the efficiency of crop cultivation. Three most important indicators were used in the calculations: quantitative – net productivity of 1 hectare of crops (in centners), qualitative – the content of digestible protein (in grams) and cost – payment of costs by products (in roubles). The vetch-oat mixture was taken as the base culture. Comparison of the indicators under consideration makes it possible to determine economically interconnected unidirectional partial indices, which are further reduced to an index of a comprehensive comparative economic assessment of the crop cultivation efficiency. With its use, it is possible to optimise the structure of sown areas on the farm. The application of the methodology makes it possible to determine the share of each fodder crop in the specific conditions of each enterprise or region, analysing the real situation and evaluating the prospects for the development of production. The optimal structure of sown areas of grain fodder and fodder crops for enterprises in the northern forest-steppe zone of the Republic of Bashkortostan is focused on increasing the gross harvest of high-protein crops. A change in the structure of sown areas, compared with the actual one, will lead to an increase in the gross harvest of fodder and grain forage crops by 8%, digestible protein – by 2%, and a decrease in production costs by 48%.
