Environmental tests as one of the approaches to the development of agrotechnological elements for the cultivation of Astragalus membranaceus and Astragalus mongholicus in the Middle Urals

Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the adaptive potential of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge and Astragalus mongholicus (Fisch.) Bunge. The research was conducted in 2018–2020 in the Middle Urals, viz. in the Sverdlovsk region. The samples were cultivated four times after fallow. Fertilizers and pesticides were not used. Before sowing, the soil was treated with a vertical milling cultivator. The samples were sown in 2018 manually. The sowing scheme was 45 cm x 10 cm, 2–3 seeds per hole, with compaction. Seedlings of A. membranaceus sprouted in 12–15 days; seedlings of A. mongholicus sprouted in 7–15 days after sowing. In the second year, the vegetation of A. membranaceus resumed in the first ten days of May, which was 12–14 days later than that of A. mongholicus. Over three years of the research green mass yield of the species averaged 28.3 t/ha and 19.0 t/ha, respectively. Plants of the studied species were damaged by aphids, fleas, and mice. The species are recommended to be sown in the period from late April to early May to a depth of 2.5–3.0 cm with a distance between rows of 45 cm and a distance between plants of 10–15 cm. Due to slow germination and growth of plants in the first year of life fighting against shading with fast-growing weeds requires regular inter-row treatments to a depth of 8–10 cm as the crop sprouts and weeds grow. Due to the accumulation of pathogens in the soil, it is recommended to establish new plantations in areas with non-legume forecrops after a three-year cultivation period.
