Abstract. The studies were conducted in the Khabarovsky district of the Khabarovsk Territory in 2017–2018 in selection vegetable crop rotation on meadow brown podzolized soils. The purpose of the work was to evaluate the main economically valuable traits of new cucumber samples for open ground for choosing the best genotypes. The parent material for crossing was Russian (Avangard and Dal’nevostochnyy 27) and Japanese (Burpless and Giant Climbing) varieties. We used hybridization and multiple individual and group selection for breeding. To fix economically valuable traits we used inbreeding. As a result, we bred 16 inbred lines with such characteristics as high productivity, marketability, early maturity, and young fruits of special properties: slowly browning and non-browning; elongated-oval, spindle-shaped, cylindrical or of other shapes; green and dark green; with the length of 9–14 cm. High total yield was registered for the inbred lines L.1 (53.4 t/ha), L.11 (41.2 t/ha), L.14 (41.5 t/ha), and L.15 (41, 9 t/ha). L.2, L.3, L.4, L.5, L.10, and L.11 lines were the best in terms of a set of economically valuable traits such as productivity (31.7–41.2 t/ha), marketability (79.4–83.4%), resistance to downy mildew (maximum damage to the leaf surface by the end of the growing season did not exceed 60%) and morphological characteristics. According to morphological characteristics, the majority of the studied inbred lines belong to brachycarpous genotypes of group I (fruit length not more than 11 cm) and II (fruit length not more than 14 cm). In terms of biometric indicators, they met the requirements of state standards for raw materials for pickling and canning. The low variation coefficient for the lines L.7 (V = 4.6–7.2%) and L.15 (V = 5.0–8.1%) in such parameters as the length, diameter, and shape index of the fruit indicated that we achieved a high homogeneity in these traits in the breeding process.
