Abstract. The purpose of the work was to analyze the indicators of lipid and thyroid status of dairy cows in the early stages of lactation to assess the risk of ovarian hypofunction. The object of observation was the heifers of Black-and-White Holstein breed. Their ovarian condition was assessed in 7 and 13 weeks of lactation using rectal and ultrasound examination and based on the content of progesterone in the blood. The cows were divided into three groups: group I included the cows with restored ovarian cycle (n = 26), group II included the cows with moderate ovarian hypofunction (n = 11), group III included the cows with deep ovarian hypofunction (n = 10). The blood tests were performed 2 weeks before calving, as well as in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 13 weeks after calving. The concentration of phospholipids in the blood of cows from group I increased from (1.54 ± 0.06) mmol/L at the first week after calving to (2.89 ± 0.07) mmol/L at the 13th week after calving; the concentration of triglycerides decreased from (0.205 ± 0.004) mmol/L to (0.182 ± 0.005) mmol/L, respectively. Compared with animals from group I, the content of phospholipids in cows from group III was significantly lower (1.3–1.6 times) in the period from the 1st to the 13th week after calving; in group II, it was significantly lower (1.2 times) in the period from the 5th to the 13th week. The level of triglycerides in cows from group III in the period from the 5th to the 7th week after calving was significantly lower than in other groups – 1.1 times. The concentration of thyroxine in the blood of cows from group III in three weeks of lactation was 1.3 times lower than in group I ((55.2 ± 3.7) nmol/L and (71.8 ± 4.6) nmol/L, respectively); in five weeks, the content of triiodothyronine was 1.5 times lower than in group II ((1.28 ± 0.19) nmol/L and (1.92 ± 0.23) nmol/L, respectively).
